LED TV - Don't Be Fooled, Understand the Technology First

Thinking of buying an LED TV, well....Stop! Before you spend in excess of 00, you need to cut through the jargon and hype to truly understand the technology that you're actually spending your hard earned money on. TV manufacturers and the media are very good at convincing us that the latest products incorporate the most cutting edge technology and are a must have. Lets get real here, to the average consumer most of this jargon is just down right confusing.

A new range of LED TVs that have hit the market with a big buzz. Samsung have crept through the backdoor and have released the 7000 series range boasting LED technology.

That's great...but what is this LED technology thats being boasted?

LED TV - Don't Be Fooled, Understand the Technology First

Current LED TVs - The Truth The term 'LED' stands for Light Emitting Diode and as you may well know LEDs are used in many of our devices at present, however in terms of the current line of LED TVs, the actual LEDs are used for the backlight of the TV ONLY and not the TV display themselves. If you consider that current TV technology uses CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorecent Lamps), there is no doubt that an LED backlight is a more efficient form of backlight.

However, the important point here is that the LED television's display is actually LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), it is the backlight only that is made up of LEDs. So there are two major technologies at use here; LCD for the display and LED for the backlight. In essence a more advanced form of LCD TV.

When you compare this technology to a true LED display TV. Displays such as OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) will self illuminate, utilizing an internal thin layer of LED for its display only.

The fact that the 'LED TV' term has been used to describe a type of LCD TV is a cunning move on Samsungs part, but genius in terms of marketing, since it capitalises on the current buzz in the TV market of true LED display TVs such as Sony's XEL-1 OLED TV.

LCD TVs with LED Backlights - The Improvements Now that we've established that this is LCD TV with an LED backlight, lets look at how this new range of TV improves on current TV technology such as plasma and standard LCD in 3 key areas:

1. Picture Quality Quite simply, the picture quality has been improved over standard LCD and Plasma, because the range of colours have increased. The utilization of Light Emitting Diodes as a light source instead of traditional lamps provides a higher contrast ratio because the LED produces blacker blacks and whiter whites, this is the key to achieving quality images on screen.

2. Environment LED Technology consumes less power than current backlight TV technology, making a saving on your energy bills.

3. Slimmer Models. Since no provision for a conventional light source is required, LED TVs can be made ultra thin, this makes for a thin, sleek, more attractive model.

Decisions, Decisions If you are in the market for a TV now and want a picture quality in advance of current standard LCD and Plasma ranges on the market, then you cannot go far wrong with an LED TV.

However, if you are in no hurray to purchase a television at this present time and require a TV with technology that will keep it at the forefront of cutting edge, in terms of LED technology, OLED TV is the real deal. Laser TV is another option to explore.

Both are emerging technologies and require patience as they find their place in the market with the correct size screens for your home. These TVs may also require you to dig a little deeper into your bank balance.

The moral of the story is to understand the technology behind the product in great detail before you part with your money, the choice is yours.

What Are the Differences Between a Plasma TV and an LCD TV?

Have a satellite system and now want a flat panel TV?

So you have gone out and purchased a Dish Network or Direct TV satellite system. When you got home, you realized that although you have a high definition receiver, your TV isn't compatible. You have eyed those flat panel TVs in the store but don't know which one to buy?

Two of the greatest changes to the world of televisions are the plasma TV and the LCD TV. Both offer slim and sleek designs and enable unique placement, such as above a fireplace or mounting on a wall. Gone are the days of the bulky CRT (cathode ray tube) televisions or rear projection; long live the flat panel!

What Are the Differences Between a Plasma TV and an LCD TV?

So how does a plasma television work?

First introduced in 1964, improvements in processing and manufacturing have made the plasma television one of the best. Differing from other television technology, such as LCD and CRT, the image is created by combining all three colors within each pixel. The signal is sent by a charge through the electrodes sandwiched between two glass panels. This changes the state of the plasma gas inside and makes the red, green and blue phosphors glow, creating light on the picture screen.

You can buy plasma televisions in either Extended Definition (ED) or High Definition (HD) resolutions. ED panels can input full HD content 1080i (interlaced) but output 500p (progressive) resolution. If you are planning to use the plasma with primarily high definition and/or with a computer, consider the HD model. If you are using it mostly with DVD, regular satellite, or cable, you will find the ED model looks great. A good ED model will outperform a poor HD plasma television, so choose a good manufacturer.

So how does a LCD television work?

The LCD television creates a picture by using a system called Twisted Nematic (TM). It is a naturally twisted crystalline structure that reacts to electric currents in predictable manners. These electric currents cause the crystal to untwist to different degrees based on the voltage given. These TM crystals are stuck between panes of polarized glass and the untwisting allows varied amounts of light to pass through.

If you are looking for a flat panel television, here are the guidelines. Below 32 inches, buy a LCD, above buy a plasma. LCD panels are available in larger sizes but the cost and quality of image will make a plasma more attractive.

Plasma televisions are better able to display fast movement without any trailing. As well, plasma televisions have a much greater contrast ratio than LCD televisions. Panasonic lists their plasma televisions at 3000:1, while the best LCD tends to be only 1000:1 contrast ratio. The plasma television has a greater angle of view and better color saturation too.

One area where the LCD television has an advantage over plasma is in screen integrity. You need to be careful with potential burn-in on plasma, but not on the LCD TV.

Sony HD Plasma TV - What to Look For in Your New Television

So, the decision has been made for you to upgrade to a digital TV in time for the big switchover. Great! You're going to love the new age of TV. The thing is, which to get? A Sony HD Plasma TV is a great idea when you're thinking of upgrading to the new era of TV technology, but what are the things to make sure you are sure of first? Let's take a look.

Plasma TV or LCD TV?

First of all, you'll have to decide between plasma and LCD. There are benefits of both kinds of new flat-screens, but if you're after absolute clear definition for your favourite movies, LCD may be the better option for you. Plasma TVs are arguably better all-round TVs, but LCDs are certainly better with film clarity.

Sony HD Plasma TV - What to Look For in Your New Television

The Price

Make sure you settle on a figure you're comfortable with paying, and one that you know you will be able to stick to. Check out what's on offer around the net and in other stockists and get to know the rough amount that you'll be looking at to pay for your new Sony HD Plasma TV.

The Size

What sort of size are you looking for? Check a few different sizes out, so that you can plan for where it will go, how it will be viewed and so on. It is important that you do this at this early stage to avoid annoyance later on.

Connectivity

Make sure you are aware of what connectors are needed to use your Sony HD Plasma TV. You may have some already, but be sure you have the right HDMI cables and so on at your disposal. Also make sure your DVD/Blu Ray players and TV boxes are compatible. They should all be anyway, but it is always best to make sure.

Keep these things in mind when looking to buy your new digital HD TV, and you can be sure to be satisfied with the model you choose.

LCD Vs Plasma TV Battle - Lifespan, Size, Refresh Rate

In LCD TV vs. plasma TV screen size, the plasma have the advantage, they're currently size champions, and however, the developing LCD TV technology is catching up. They have sizes from 32" to 63". Panasonic makes this kind that's 103", but not for sale to consumers.

In comparing angles for viewing, LCD vs. plasma screens, the latter has an advantage. Viewing angles for plasma TVs are up until 160 degrees, while viewing angles for LCD TVs are until 175 degrees.

The screen's refresh rates vary slightly with LCD and plasma TV screen's technology. The former produces refresh and handles rapid movements like CRT televisions. The latter has improved refresh rates.

LCD Vs Plasma TV Battle - Lifespan, Size, Refresh Rate

For weight, LCD televisions are lighter, cheaper to ship and more portable. With screen durability test, LCD win, they're less fragile. On the other hand, plasmas are fragile that they're tricky to ship plus to install. Their installation must be done by professionals, which makes them more of a hassle in installing. It means that you'll need a separate budget for installment apart from the original budget you need to set for the price of the television alone.

In plasmas vs. LCD TVs, screen lifespan isn't an effective way in differentiating them. The former is reported to have half life at 30,000-60,000 hours. Average CRT TVs which most of us use at home have half life at 25,000 hours.

Whether one is cheaper than the other, or better than another, in the end, it would be up to you to weigh things out and decide.

Plasma HDTV - The Truth About Plasma TV Lifespan

If you're still living back in the days when Plasma TVs were only supposed to last a short time then you need to drag yourself back into current reality.

The truth is, a Plasma HDTV can last you up to half a lifetime - that's no exaggeration with several major companies including Panasonic, Samsung and Pioneer listing longevity of up to 60,000 hours.

Equivalent Longevity To LCD TVs

Plasma HDTV - The Truth About Plasma TV Lifespan

This now means plasma TVs are now equal to LCDs in longevity which is impressive considering LCDs were supposed to run them out of town when they first hit the market and many were shouting the "death of plasma."

Many are still clinging to the claims of nearly a decade ago that plasma TVs burnt out too quick and were not worth their purchase price in comparison to their shelf life.

That's true in a sense when one needed to shelve out nearly five figures for the pleasure of putting one over their neighbors in the "keeping up with the Jones'" race but things have turned around dramatically since then.

THe price of plasmas has dropped significantly - thanks to new technology, more units being sold and the competition from LCD units. Plasma burn may even be thing of the past although don't dare test it by leaving your screen on a still image for more than ten minutes.

Today's models are thinner, have superior anti-burn technology and consume much less power. From a viewing perspective, they have always been superior especially from TV viewing distance and viewing angle.

4 Tips For Longer Plasma Life

The figure of 60,000 hours longevity will differ from brand to brand so keep in mind that some are superior to others. Here are some important tips in keeping your Plasma HDTV working in tip-top order for many years:

- keep it in a well ventilated area

- do not leave static images on the screen for longer than 8-10 minutes

- avoid watching in very brightly lit rooms; in other words, plasma TVs perform better in normal lit and dimly lit areas

- make sure the unit is turned off when you are not using it

How to Choose a 4th Grade Science Project

It usually happens in fourth grade: Your child comes home with a packet of material about the upcoming science fair. For many children, this is the first time they've been required to do a science project. They may be excited, or they may face the prospect with dread. Whichever, it's up to the parent to make sure that the science project gets done.

Your child may have very specific ideas about what he or she would like to submit to the science fair. Before you let excitement rule, however, you need to find out the specific science project guidelines your child must follow. First of all, what type of science project is required? Unbelievably, there are five kinds:

Investigative projects - Most science fairs require students to do an experiment, and usually, this is an investigative, or investigatory science project.

How to Choose a 4th Grade Science Project

Demonstration projects - This type of project is usually done in class as opposed to a science fair, with the student demonstrating a scientific principle to the class.

Research project - Basically, a research project is a report on a scientific topic.

Models - Models are a three dimensional representation of an object or a concept in science.

Collections - In this type of project a collection of objects is displayed to give an overview of a topic.

Also be aware of any restrictions the science fair or your school may have. Can you use/display food? What about animals? Will your child have to perform the experiment in front of judges?

Once you find out what kind of science project your fourth grader needs, it's time to find out what project he or she wants to do. As you search, keep the following questions in mind:

1. Can I find the materials needed for the science experiment? Once my son needed powdered laundry starch for a project. Since nobody irons much anymore, it's not easy to find!

2. Are the supplies expensive? One science project we considered called for SIX reusable hand warmers. They are almost each, plus shipping. We found something else to do.

3. Can the science project supplies be located in time? If you have to order something, will it arrive in time for you to do the project thoroughly?

4. Is this project within my child's ability level? Is it safe? Science projects are for your CHILD to do - with your assistance. Not the other way around.

5. Will this project really work? My mom tried for years to make a battery out of a lemon, and never succeeded.

A 4th grade science project is a huge undertaking. Take it from us - we have four sons, each of whom was required to enter the science fair in fourth grade. We've had failures and successes, tears and smiles. And always, after the 4th grade project, we had the 5th grade project right around the corner!

Plasma TV The Price Goes Down

Plasma TV has become an important part of television technology. Over the past few years, there have been several major advances in the industry, including the plasma TV. As with any major technology advances, the plasma TV is quickly becoming more affordable - good news for the consumer.

There are several reasons the price of the plasma TV is becoming more affordable. The first is the same reason that most technologies come down in price - the fact that the technology becomes more widely understood and available. As more manufacturers go into business to make the product, the competition naturally gets more intense and prices go down.

Remember that the manufacturers of those first units are trying to recoup the cost of research and development. That makes the product - in this case the plasma TV - more expensive for the consumer. After the technology is slightly older, the companies who manufacture are no longer trying to recover those costs so they can sell the products cheaper. As long as a person holds a patent and other companies are not able to reproduce the technology, the price is more likely to remain high.

Plasma TV The Price Goes Down

Another point that affects the cost of new technologies such as the plasma TV is simple supply and demand. As more consumers demand the product, more manufacturers will go to the expense of making the product available. At first, there won't likely be sufficient supply to meet the consumer demand but that typically changes after an initial introduction period. When there are plenty of plasma TV sets available to meet current demand, prices will drop.

For the consumer, this means that great technology - the plasma TV, for example - becomes more affordable in a relatively short period of time. Finding a great deal on a plasma TV should be as near as your online or local retailers.

Phone, Internet, TV, Wireless...Comparing Bundled Services

This article will allow consumers to educate themselves on the best deals possible for bundled services. In the ever changing and ultra competitive world of telecom many consumers can be confused with the many different bundled plans and services most phone companies now offer. With the implementation of bundled services consumers can now have most all telecom products (phone, tv, internet, wireless) and services provided by the same company at a lower rate than having multiple service providers. This article will categorically break down plans provided by most major telecom service providers available in th US. Each provider will be rated based on blanket availability, services offered, and cost effectiveness. These are comprehensive reviews based on research and not personal experience. Phone Companies Beware this article is designed to educate consumers and provide the best possible options for telecom services.

First up AT&T The monopolizing entity of the Big 3 phone companies few can compete with the blanket availability of AT&T's products and services worldwide. Being one of only three telecom companies that also offer wireless phone service as a part of its residential bundle which also includes its unlimited calling plan phone service, satellite TV Through Dish Network and of course the world famous ATT Yahoo DSL. Few companies can compete, but there are cheaper bundled service plans out there especially for the consumer that is not interested in cellular phone service. Here is an example of the services offered and billing for the AT&T Residential bundled services plan.

Phone Service- Order AT&T All Distance Online Select(SM) online and get unlimited local and domestic direct-dialed long distance plus great calling features.

Phone, Internet, TV, Wireless...Comparing Bundled Services

Well Old Ma Bell Does Have A Cost Effective Money Saving Bundle With The Most Availability!
4.5/5 Stars

Next we have Qwest Communications One of the Big 3 Telecom service providers its coverage area is limited to the Western half of the states mainly the Pacific Northwest but as far as price and overall services this company by far has the best bundled package including wireless cell phone service on the market. One Negative though No free DVR here but more channels with Direct TV as opposed to ATT Dish Network, Here are the details.

Phone Service- Digital Voice: Unlimited local and long-distance calls from your home phone to anywhere in the U.S. and now Canada, anytime. PLUS, choose up to three of your favorite calling features.

TV Service- The DIRECTV® package offers 185+ channels in 100% digital quality.

Bundled Plan Total Cost 125.96/mo

Unbeatable 5/5 stars if its available in your are choose Qwest!

Well here it is last of the Big 3 Phone companies Verizon. I'm wondering which of these companies will be around for the next 20 years with AT&T having a strangle hold on our national market. Verizon Phone company does provide some pretty stiff competition for Old Ma Bell though, Here are the details.

Phone- Verizon's Freedom Essentials provides unlimited calls to the US and Canada as well as the main basic calling features with voicemail being FREE 1 up on AT&T.

TV Service- Same Plan as Qwest with Direct TV more channels for the money as opposed to AT&T.

High Speed Internet- DSL the cable companies sure have 1 up on DSL consumers with faster speed available but in a bundle Verizon has a pretty good plan, Connection speeds up to 3.0 Mbps, More than 80 times faster than dial-up, Three installation steps
here is the one negative with their DSL service in the bundle One-year commitment required.

Wireless- Well We've all heard of the network on TV and the such and Verizon Phone Company does offer wireless services as part of its bundle with 450 anytime minutes and a standard wireless plan.

Bundled Plan Total Cost 134.99-144.99/mo depending on your area.

I would have to rate them #2 amongst the Big 3 as far as services and pricing but they do have the edge on Qwest based up blanket availability.

4.5/5.0 stars

Now we go on to the cable companies that have also submitted their bids for your telephone service as well first up we have Comcast Cable Company. Well if you are truly dedicated to cable TV and internet if available in your area Comcast Cable Company is the way to go all necessary equipment is Free after mail in rebates and services are exceptional based on consumer reviews online. Here are the details.

With no wireless service available as part of the bundle I still have to give the Cable edge to Comcast with So many cash back offers on signup!

Bundled Plan Total Cost 99.00/mo

Next Up Charter Communications, the reviews are in some good some bad and well some just plain indifferent. Charter Communication Cable...Cable TV's answer to the Big 3 phone companies (AT&T, Qwest, Verizon) and satellite tv's quest to crush cable have assembled their own bundled telecom services package as well. Though wireless cell phone services are not offered as part of the Charter Bundle. Charter does have a few advantages that may just sway a chunk of loyal wireless consumers back to the wired world. Here are the details.

Phone- Unlimited local and long distance in the US (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) and Canada from one provider. One bill for local and long distance. Keep your current phone number (subject to some restrictions).

TV Service- Over a hundred channels, plus local channels. Digital quality picture and sound. Parental Controls and an Interactive Program Guide Movies and shows you can start on your schedule with Charter OnDemand - many included at no cost.

High Speed Internet- Charter Highspeed Cable Internet, Speeds up to 3Mbps and a reliable connection. Anti-virus and firewall software, spam filtering and parental controls included. Always connected, no dial-up required. Up to 10 email boxes and extra storage

Wireless Cell Phone- NA

Bundled Plan Total Cost 99.97/mo

On Demand is Pretty Nice and no matter what DSL users say cable is faster than DSL but with no wireless service it means I still have to look at another bill month to month. Limited availability Though. 4.0/5 stars

Last but not least Time Warner Cable Company Well While Competing in huge markets such as New York, Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio Time Warner has a bundled services package that seems to be the best for the loyal cable consumer. Still no wireless phone service but with high speed cable internet service through Road Runner and On Demand programming as well as a free DVR included in its digital Cable package it seems to be the service to outlast Charter and Comcast in the Cable Providers rank and file in our new telecom bundled services world.

Phone- It's time for a better residential telephone service. It's time for unlimited calling to anywhere in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico, plus popular calling features for one low "monthly" price.

TV Service- Time Warner Cable Over 250 Channels
With features like Digital Video Recorder (DVR), you can now record anything you like and watch it later, with all the control of a VCR or a DVD. You can even pause live TV. Plus On Demand

High Speed Internet- high speed cable via Road Runner. Hey Its Cable internet always on and faster than DSL.

Wireless Cell Phone- NA

Bundled Plan Total Cost 99.97/mo

Hey I had AT&T but DSL was too unreliable I now have Charter but wish I could have Time Warner

4.0/5 stars

Fourth Grade Science Fair Projects

Fourth grade students are very energetic and their span of attention or concentration is very small. Above that, they want to observe, infer, predict and classify anything taught on science. Learning by doing is a good concept and it registers in their young minds and they can never go wrong in their examinations. For this, a lot of schools conduct fourth grade science fair. Here, all the fourth grade science fair projects will be displayed.

The children explain their fourth grade science fair projects, while the others watch these projects and learn. Teaching them in a play way method is very effective. Here are few fourth grade science fair projects for this age group.

Salt increases the density of water. Add four to five tablespoons of salt in a glass of water stir it nicely and float an egg. Also add little more luke-warm fresh water and check, the egg will float in-between the salt and the water. Try using sugar or flour in the water the egg will sink.

Fourth Grade Science Fair Projects

Which water is good for plants can be made as a project by selecting a pot with some seeds; one pot can be watered with tap water, the other pot to be watered with only rain water. Check the growth for seven weeks; the rain water watered pot is better.

Will plants grow with a liquid other than water can be done in an effective project by selecting four pots, Water the first pot with water, second one with vinegar, third one with orange juice and fourth one with milk. The result is the one with water grows the maximum, the one with vinegar dies as it is an acid, the one with orange juice and milk also grows but nowhere near as much as the pure source.

A fourth grade science fair project to test which environment is best for plants. Take three pots, one with sand, one with soil, and one with gravel and put few seeds in each pot, wet them at regular intervals and make a graph, the seeds in the soil grew the maximum.

Classification of mammals -- Mammals are found every where. Polar bears in cold areas, camels in hot areas, moles live under the ground, bats live in caves and flies in the air and dolphins live in oceans. Fur and fat help them to protect themselves in cold regions and they sweat and pant to release their extra heat. A fourth grade science fair project can be made by cutting and pasting picture of mammals and their place of rest.

Sunflower house project: On the ground draw a square and plant sunflower seeds leaving enough space between two seeds all in the perimeter of the square, but don't forget to leave a little space in the front side for the door. Once the sunflower plants grow one inch, plant bean seeds around each sunflower plant. As they grow the beans will climb up the sunflower stalks and create a wonderful playhouse for the children. In this way they learn the characteristics of creepers, flower plants, trees, shrubs etc.

Excellent features of sunflowers are we can get oil, easy to grow and a good bird feeder, Make a sun and a flower and label its uses.

Life cycle of a butterfly - egg, caterpillar, cocoon and then a beautiful butterfly can be made live in your garden.

A Bird house can be made in wood, to encourage birds to come and live. Observe the birds and their habits.

Instincts can be taught in a project form by showing baby birds open their mouth for food, baby turtles know to go to the sea when their eggs hatch.

Children at this age group should be given simpler fourth grade science fair projects to keep them occupied. Once they are occupied and disciplined, teachers job become easier to make them learn and enjoy schooling.

HDTV: An Advertising Myth De-bunked

There's a great deal of nonsense talked about HDTV and much of the noise comes
from manufacturers' and retailers' advertising which in some cases is extremely
misleading.

One of the areas of greatest confusion is resolution. Resolution is defined as the
number of pixels - the elements which make up a digital image - in an image and is
usually quoted as a x b, where a is the number of pixels across the screen
(horizontal) and b is the number of pixels up and down (vertical, also referred to as
the number of lines). In this article we'll explain everything you need to know about
the number of pixels required for HDTV.

HDTV Specification

HDTV: An Advertising Myth De-bunked

The HDTV specification provides for three different types of HDTV, denoted by the
number of lines of resolution and the signal type. They are:

1080p (1080 lines, progressive scan)

1080i (1080 lines, interlaced)

720p (720 pixels, progressive)

Any TV not capable of displaying at least 720 lines is not 'HDTV ready' and any
signal with fewer than 720 lines is not an HDTV signal.

Interlaced or Progressive?

The 'i' and 'p' in the HDTV specification refer to interlaced and progressive scan. The
analog TV we've been watching for years is interlaced. That simply means that each
frame of video (of which there are 30 per second in NTSC and 24 per second in PAL)
is split into two fields. Each field contains alternate lines of the signal (one has the
odd, the other the even) and is displayed for 1/60th of a second (1/48th for PAL).
Because it happens so fast, your brain interprets each frame as a single image.
Progressive scan signals have no fields, they simply display each frame in its
entirety for 1/30th (or 1/24th) of a second. This results in a higher quality image,
particularly noticeable in fast-action broadcasts such as sporting events.

So every TV that can display 720 lines is HDTV ready?

No, and this is one of the key areas of confusion. The other important element of
the HDTV specification is that signals must be broadcast in 16:9 widescreen. This is
known as the aspect ratio, where '16' refers to the width of the image and '9' to the
height. In other words, the height of the picture is 9/16ths of the width.
Some manufacturers promote TVs with a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels
as HDTV ready. This is incorrect. Although the total number of vertical pixels is
greater than the 720 minimum necessary for HDTV, at an aspect ratio of 16:9 it
would need 1280 pixels horizontally to display a 720-line HDTV picture. The only
solution is to either squash or crop the picture, neither of which is satisfactory.
So, in order to be properly HDTV capable, a TV needs to be able to display at least
1280 pixels horizontally as well as at least 720 vertically.

Remember before you buy to check that the resolution of your HDTV is at least
1280 x 720 pixels and don't rely on the logo on the box.

Plasma Vs LCD TV - What's the Difference?

Flat screen plasma and LCD TVs are more popular than ever with new models being released on an almost continuous basis. This is great because it means there are lots of makes and models to choose from; however all this choice can make buying a new flat screen TV quite complicated. There are a lot of people out there who want to know what the differences are between plasma and LCD TVs, and which one is best. Unfortunately there's no simple answer as to which one is best, it all depends on the individual consumer. However, there are a number of differences between the two technologies, so let's take a look at these so you know what to consider before deciding which type of TV to purchase.

Plasma TVs contain a special type of gas, which turns into plasma when an electric current is passed through it. In turn the plasma emits the light that makes up the picture. LCD TVs on the other hand are made up of thousands of cells containing liquid crystals which are then illuminated by fluorescent backlighting.

Plasma TVs became a firm favourite with consumers because of the relatively low price point. Plasma screens are relatively cheap to produce, which means that consumers are able to get very large screen displays for their money. Even though the prices of many LCD TVs are starting to drop now that manufacturing techniques are becoming more advanced, it is still the case that plasma screens are generally cheaper, especially for screen sizes over 32 inches.

Plasma Vs LCD TV - What's the Difference?

Both types of TV deliver picture quality that is far better than traditional CRT screens; however plasma screens tend to offer a much higher contrast, with very deep blacks and bright whites. Plasma screens also handle fast moving action really well due to the higher refresh rate - this means that you will hardly ever see motion blur on a plasma screen. LCD screens tend to have a lower contrast ratio meaning that colours don't appear quite as refined, and they also tend to suffer from motion blur as the refresh rate is lower. This is being addressed with the newer LCD screens, but there is still a slight noticeable difference.

Plasma screens tend to offer a better range of sizes - typically you can find plasma screens going up to a whopping 103 inches! LCDs tend to only go up to around 65 inches. However, the larger size comes at a cost as plasma screens tend to be thicker than LCD screens. A plasma TV is also likely to be around 10% heavier than a LCD TV of the same size, and will consume much more power.

The expected lifespan of each type of TV is different too. Typically you should expect your plasma TV to last for about 10-15 years, whereas a LCD TV would be expected to last for around 30 years

To summarise:
Plasma TVs: are generally cheaper, are available in sizes up to 103 inches, have a higher contrast for dynamic pictures, are thicker and heavier than LCD TVs, use more power and tend to have a shorter lifespan

LCD TVs: are generally more expensive, are available in sizes up to 65 inches, have a lower contrast ratio, are slimmer and lighter than plasma TVs, use less power and tend to last 2 to 3 times as long

So which type of TV should you buy? Well that really does depend on you. Some consumers prefer to buy LCD TVs for their slim casing and lightweight designs. Many also go for LCD because they are less power hungry and are therefore more environmentally friendly. Other consumers prefer plasma TVs for the large screen sizes and dynamic looking pictures. Both types of screen have their advantages and disadvantages, so it really is a matter of doing your research and deciding which screen type best meets your needs.

How to connect a TV to computer, HDTV to PC or laptop

How to connect a TV to computer, HDTV to PC or laptop Video Clips. Duration : 7.95 Mins.

Parts used: jasonrj.net I explain the best way to connect your desktop or laptop computer to your HDTV. This will not work with a standard definition TV. I choose the HDMI cable method because it is the absolute best way to do this when concerned with picture quality. I use a DVI to HDMI converter but a video card with a built in HDMI port is even better. Please note that just about any computer is capable of doing this but if the video card is not powerful enough you may see choppy video on the TV as a result. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON EXPENSIVE HDMI CABLES!!!! The cheap cables are EXACTLY as good as the ridiculously expensive ones. This is a proven fact that I find hilarious people try to argue: www.mint.com www.engadget.com gizmodo.com

Samsung LN32A450 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Vs. Sony Bravia XBR-Series KDL-32XBR6 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

In the 32' variety, Sony has made an absolute gem, which is tough to beat. Yet Samsung has launched its own ace and has won many hearts due to key features. Both are framed in black. Here is a comparison.

Both TVs are almost similarly heavy (or light) and come with wall mounts. But the Samsung version is thinner, giving it a sleeker look.

Resolution does not give much scope for comparison. Sony's 32" version has 1080p. That may be too much of pixels if viewed closely. From safe distance, the view is quite real. Samsung's 32" does have only 720p resolution. For the record, the higher the resolution, the higher is the clarity of a TV.

Samsung LN32A450 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Vs. Sony Bravia XBR-Series KDL-32XBR6 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

The image aspect ratio in both televisions is 16:9. That is considered the ideal ratio, as the projections do not feel elongated or widened.

In terms of dynamic contrast ratio, Sony wins hand down with a 25000:1 ratio compared to Samsung's 10,000. When that is added to the contrast enhancer, you can make out between many types of black. Picture on Samsung does have help from wide-angle enhancer. That makes Samsung's A450 a better viewing TV than Sony's 32XBR6 from angles and heights. But at eye level, Sony is decidedly better.

Then Sony has 4 HDMI to Samsung's 3. HDMI or High Definition Multimedia Interface is the computer equivalent of USB port. The connections with DVD players, blackberry and Blu-Ray drives can be made.

In sound quality, both are fitted with Trusound technology to absorb excess sound, but the speakers are average.

In response time, it's a one horse race, as Sony has not declared its response time. So pictures may appear slightly slow on Sony's version. Samsung's version has a quality response time of 6 ms. It deals with fast images such as a Bruce Lee chop in real time.

Aesthetically, Samsung wins the fight if fast pictures are what you dig most in a TV and also if you looking for a better price, but overall Sony is the winner if you are just looking for the best TV.

Choose the Latest Technology - Plasma TV Or LCD?

Both kinds of televisions are derived from the modern advancement in home entertainment and technology. They are way thinner that the traditional cathode ray tube televisions and they offer better picture quality and brighter and clearer resolutions.

But which one is really better? Is it a win for the Plasma TV or the LCD TV? Their prices may be close but features can be really far different from each other.

They actually have really different technologies. The answer to which one is better will depend mostly on how the consumers plan to use the unit.

Choose the Latest Technology - Plasma TV Or LCD?

Plasma TVs are usually made of millions of tiny pixels in the RGB or Red-Green-Blue color scheme. These three colors combine to produce millions and millions of color variations.

There are two panels in a Plasma TV that are packed in between with xenon or neon gas. Light is generated when electricity passes through the gas and converts it into a liquid form. The light illuminates the pixels thus creating an image. This happens very quickly with about 50 frames in every second.

It is often recommended to obtain a Plasma TV for the purpose of watching movies. It is believed to have higher color resolution and clearer picture image than an LCD television.

LCD televisions, on the other hand, are filled with liquid crystals. These crystals, when passed by electricity, allows light to enter or be filtered. Various wavelengths of lights are then blocked resulting to the display of different colors. It is somewhat similar to how a prism works.

LCD TVs, like the Samsung Lcd Tv 7 Series, are mostly recommended for playing computer games and hobbies such as digital photography. It has a better response time compared to a Plasma TV. Additionally, an LCD TV can be used as replacement for a computer monitor.

Both Plasma TV and LCD TV have their advantages and disadvantages. Just like what I have said earlier, the deciding factor is primarily the customer's usage intention and needs.

Why Would I Want Cablecard HDTV?

There are a lot of choices when looking for your next television. If you are in the market for a new TV set and you've been looking at a HDTV, chances are that you will see the word Cablecard HDTV on the TV box. The Cablecard is a small device that can take the place of your cable box. Cablecard are sold in either S or M models. The S-Card will only let you watch one channel at a time and only record one program at a time. The M-card allows you to watch two channels at once and record two channels at the same time. The M-card will also allow you to use your pip feature on the TV.

The Cablecard HDTV is one of the newer HDTV's that have a slot built in that allows a security card to be inserted. This allows the Cablecard HDTV to receive premium cable channels without the use of a separate cable box. The cable company supplies you with a card that decodes the channels you have subscribed to and allows the HDTV to broadcast the picture to you. It is like the access card that is in your satellite box, but this one goes in your HDTV. This way you do not have the bulky and awkward box on top of your TV, nor do you have any extra power cords running out the back. If you find you need to move, you just send back your Cablecard to the old provider and get a new one from the cable provider in your new location.

The first thing you will notice with your new HDTV will be the picture. The HDTV tuner associated with your TV takes any picture and adjusts it to a superb quality picture for you to view. If you buy a Cablecard HDTV you need to realize that the card doesn't allow you to access everything that would have been available to you with a cable box. Because the cable companies have not embraced the idea of the Cablecard HDTV you will probably want to contact your cable company to find out just what features will be available to you and your new TV and what the costs for those services will be. Checking on the internet is easy to do to see if you will need an additional cable box for any of the cable channels.

The Samsung UN55B8000 55 Inch 1080p Television Set

The Samsung UN55B8000 55 inch 1080p is an extremely large and capable television monitor. Not only does it offer many standard features but there are other benefits to be gained through the use of it. It is among the thinnest sets on the market and it does progressive frame rates at full resolution. It has a pleasant design and runs cooler than some televisions. It also features a really unique remote control as well as a power saving feature.

The most important thing about this monitor is how very thin it is. It measures in at merely one and a half inches at the thickest part of the design scheme. Very thin televisions can be great for wall mounting applications. This is the preferred way of placing these units within the home. Thin designs also have the great advantage of being light weight. This is important when it comes time to move the set.

The Samsung UN55B8000 55 inch 1080p has the benefit of displaying full high definition resolution. This is typically 1920X1080. This resolution is the highest one available in monitors today. One benefit the set offers is the ability to display this resolution while utilizing progressive frame rates. This is a frame scheme that displays one entire digital image after another. It was created to replace interlaced schemes and has been known to produce more cinematic motion.

The Samsung UN55B8000 55 Inch 1080p Television Set

Many people have been calling this television very sleek and stylish. It comes in an attractive flat black color. This helps to make sure that it does not interfere with home decorations when installed in a room. Having such a rich black border around the screen also creates a more cinematic look. Many consumers prefer to have black LCD televisions in their homes.

This monitor has the advantage of running at a very cool temperature. LCD televisions have the bad habit of running very hot. Plasma displays are notorious for this. Running at a very hot temperature can cause a set to damage over time. Since this unit runs at a very cool temperature it might last a very long time. The life of a particular monitor is a very important thing to consider when researching these units.

The remote that comes supplied with the television is a very unique one. One new feature that it offers is called an RF feature. This allows the unit to receive commands from the control when it is not even pointed at the set. There are also a lot features and menus that the remote provides access to. All the standards are included. An example of these would be the sleep timer.

This monitor has a really nice energy saving feature. People who are into the more green life style will appreciate such a feature. The set is pre-programmed to shut down when it is not being used. Many modern units come equipped with this feature. Not only is this feature better for the planet but it can be light on the wallet as well by lowering the energy bill.

There are so many great benefits that the Samsung UN55B8000 55 inch 1080p unit has to offer a television viewer. It provides many features that have become standard in the current market place. It also makes itself stand out by offering some extra ones. The remote control that is provided with the set is a very important one. The fact that it runs very cool is also important to mention.
